Role description
- Responsible in leading a high-performance Field Medical team(s) that drives enhanced patient outcomes.
- Sets the standards strategically and operationally for the Medical capabilities implementation, with the ambition to have a leading, customer focused Medical team that puts the needs of patients first and ensures that plans and activities have a strong scientific basis and are conducted to the highest standards of integrity.
- Acts as a trainer and coach to MSL, providing training on MSL functional capabilities and align implementation internal standards and processes cross-TAs.
Job responsibilities
Setting standards and operational excellence
- Sets standards for Medical Excellence in AZK.
- Roll out MSL capabilities and global frameworks according to regional/Global Medical Excellence Program (e.g., MSL guidance, Standards for medical activities, Medical KPIs etc.).
- Plan and conduct medical capability building workshops based on alignment with medical directors and MSL managers.
- Guides MSL teams how to set-up HCP classification system, HCP engagement plan, teritorry plan, KEE coverage and KPI follow-up systems.
- Generate periodic field medical KPI reports.
- Implements structured approach to MSL message and MSL scientific slide set creation in all TAs.
- Implements structured approach to insight sharing process by MSLs to cross-functional teams.
- Coordinates Medical Excellence training programme and MSL probation assessment (incl. MSL induction)
- Guides MSLs how to organize and conduct field visits based on AZ medical engagement model and how to organize medical events (Advisory board, scientific exchange meeting, investigators meeting, etc)
- Conduct one on one meetings/field visits to coach and review MSL field interaction according to the most up-to-date global field medical engagement model on proficiency and related capabilities
- Set up relevant Performance Metrics and systems for Medical to be tracked by MSL groups.
- Ensures Medical best practice sharing across therapeutic areas.
Typical Accountabilities
- Conduct activities and interactions consistent with Company values and in compliance with the Code of Conduct and supporting Policies and Standards relevant to your role. Complete all required training on the AZ Code of Conduct and supporting Policies and Standards on time. Report potential issues of non-compliance.
- Ensure and monitor compliance by team members and third parties by (a) positively reinforcing the Code of Conduct and all relevant AstraZeneca Policies and Standards, (b) ensuring completion of all required training, (c) fostering a culture of openness in which employees are comfortable raising questions or concerns, and (d) immediately addressing and reporting, as appropriate, instances of non-compliance.
Skills
- Medical Affairs Expertise: Strong background and extensive experience in medical affairs within the pharmaceutical industry, with a deep understanding of medical strategy, operations, and compliance.
- Stakeholder Relationship Management: Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including field medical teams, cross-functional colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
- Project Management: Advanced skills in planning, organizing, and executing multiple projects, including capability-building programs, KPI tracking, and launch readiness initiatives.
- Coaching and Training: Expertise in training, coaching, and mentoring Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) on functional capabilities, medical standards, and field engagement models.
- Digital and Analytical Proficiency: Proficiency with digital solutions, data analytics, artificial intelligence tools, and Veeva systems to enhance field medical activities and insight generation.
- Communication and Presentation: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to deliver engaging presentations, lead workshops, and facilitate meetings.
- Team Leadership: Demonstrated experience in managing or guiding teams, fostering a high-performance culture, and ensuring best practice sharing across therapeutic areas.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or working towards a medical/scientific professional qualification
- Language: Native Korean, Fluent in English communication
- Certifications: MSc/PhD in a scientific discipline (preferred, not mandatory)
- Work Experience
- Experience of Medical Affairs function within a pharmaceutical industry (minimum 5 years)
- People manager experience (mandatory, minimum 2 years)
- Extensive experience in relationship and stakeholder management
- Project management experience
